THE STORY:

'Team Shadow' launched in 2015 supporting a young trooper by the name of Mark Burrow Jr; who is battling the invisible disease called Sickle Cell Anemia. Sickle Cell Disease is a genetic disorder that causes  the red blood cells to assume an abnormal sickle shape, making it difficult for blood to flow through vessels and deliver oxygen throughout the body, causing unpreditable complication including anemia, pain, and an increase susceptibility to infection. Mark A.K.A "Shadow" suffers from debilitating pain, long hospital stays, blood transfusions, and organ damage but he doesn't complain much and he pushies himself throught the pain. Shadow strives EVERYDAY  to be  like a typical 11 year old boy. He enjoys playing select baseball, video games, riding his bike with his friends and playing basketball. Although, these activities seem common for the typical child; it takes alot out of Mark both physcially and mentally. Now, that shadow has overcome the shame of his condition, he is telling his story to inspire others.

Mark Burrow Jr. "Shadow"  A kid who says he just wants to be normal.

The 4th Annual Sickle Cell Stroll 2015 is a walk at Hudlin Park to raise awareness of sickle cell disease. It is a family friendly event designed to celebrate the lives of those with sickle cell disease and to educate the community about the disease. Hudlin Park is located at 700 S Kingshighway Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63110.

Whether you have sickle cell, know someone who does or would like to show your support, come stroll with us! Registration for the event is free, but required. And, if you donate or fundraise $25 or more ($10 for each child), you will receive a limited edition 2015 Stroll t-shirt! Prizes to be given away throughout the day including a prize for the team with most registered participants, the team/individual with the highest fundraising total and most spirited team/individual.

Proceeds from the event will allow Sickle Cell Association to bring awareness and carry out its mission to support those living with sickle cell disease while working to eliminate the disease through collaborations on education, research, and resources.
