THE STORY:

Hi Everyone,

My name is Sherrie Pessolano and I "have" epilepsy. I am 41 years old and after 7 1/2 years of being miss diagnosed, it was finally evident that I had epilepsy. It was subtle at first. I had blurry vision on occassion, clumsy, dropping things, and sometimes forgetful. As time had progressed, my symptoms had increased and in 2011, while playing softball in a Cancer Fund Raiser Tournament, I lost feeling to the left side of my face, it began to droop and upon getting to the E.R. I was told I had a "possible" T.I.A. (stroke).

My seizures were at 30-50 times a day. I like to consider them as interruptions. Some of them, I can recover from rather quickly and others leave me exhausted, confused and my motor skills take some time to come back. As a result, I have lost my job and have been unemployed for a little over a year. Social Security denied benefits because although it is evident that I have epilepsy that isn't currently controlled by medication, herniated discs, brain lesions, fibromyalgia and sinus bradycardia, there must be some small job out there for me. Unemployment has denied me twice, stating that I am too ill to qualify for benefits. Unable to afford private insurance, I am currently on NJ Medicaid which has me jumping hurdles just to get basic testing done.

On my last visit to my neurologist, August 24,2015; he informed me that both the eeg in 2014 and the one performed in March 2015 shows slow brain function and when asked why, he doesn't quite know. He went on to say that my brain function is that of someone btwn the ages of 60-70 yrs of age {with dementia}. Gratefully, I still have my witts about me and my sarcasm seems to get me through some of the hardest moments.

Earlier today, August 27th, I received a call from the neurologist's office telling me that upon completion of my blood work (because I am taking 28,000mg of antiepileptic drugs per week}, the doctor would like to send me for a PETSCAN to rule out PICKS DISEASE.

I am praying for the best as I do want to see my children grow, get married and just be involved with my family. Epilepsy is so under funded and misunderstood. I am asking that anyone who is willing to donate, please do so. There are so many others out there with similar stories.

Thank you for taking the time out to read my story. Let's find a cure.

Lots of Love,Hope and Faith,

Sherrie Pessolano
