BENEFITING: Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation
EVENT DATE: Mar 23, 2014
Town Park was created in 2007 by local artist and arts educator, Keith “K-Dub” Williams with the help, love, and support from our local skateboard community, at historic De Fremery Park in West Oakland. K-Dub and the City of Oakland worked to build a “skater built” dynamic wood structure skatepark for Oakland and Bay Area youth. The goal was to create a facility that would allow our youth to stay in their own community instead of travelling to neighboring city skateparks.
Town Park is now on a mission to Upgrade their existing park into a World Class skatepark for our youth and community. Join us and help support their efforts!
K-Dub created Hood Games (HOODGMZ) in 2005 in East Oakland (EOYDC) - East Oakland Youth Development Center) and to date they have produced 52 Hood Games events in Oakland, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Long Beach, and 6 events with the X-Games in Los Angeles. In 2008 the X-Games integrated Hood Games with the HOODGMZ Xperience. They bring 35 youth from Oakland/Bay Area, Los Angeles and Long Beach to skate on the "Street" course before the pro competition. Many top professional skateboarders have attended the Hood Games events including: Karl Watson, Paul "P-Rod" Rodriguez, Nyjah Huston,Terry Kennedy, Keith "Huf" Hufinalge, Stevie Williams and many more!
Team SomaR will be running in the 5th Anniversary of the Oakland Running Festival to raise money to help build the Town Park.
