EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
Hi everyone! I'm excited to announce that this April, I will be running with team South Shore Hospital in the 2013 Boston marathon and I will need as much support as I can get! :)
Running the Boston Marathon has been a goal of mine since I was in my early teens. I've completed two half marathons but never a full one. Anyone who sees me jogging around town knows that I'm not fast, so I'm going with the theory that the turtle wins the race. Well, maybe not wins it, but finishes it!
In order to run with Team South Shore Hospital, I've committed to raising $ 5,000.00. I'm running in honor of a friend, Nina Gorman, who passed away in 2011 from liposarcoma, a rare form of tissue cancer. She was a mom just like many of us - her life was cut short way too early. I'm running for her and for all of the other family members and friends who have suffered from cancer. Any money I raise will go into the Nina Gorman fund to help with care and research of sarcoma at South Shore Hospital. Nina was full of life and always a breath of fresh air to be with - I'm hoping she'll carry me through all of the long training runs and the big day, April 15!
If you are able to make a donation, big or small, I'll be forever grateful! I promise that the money is going to a great hospital and a wonderful cause. Thanks in advance for your help!
On a final note, if you live locally, come run some miles with me this winter - I'd love the company. If the running part doesn't have any appeal, that you can just beep and wave at me from your car, or even put your window down and scream at me to pick up the pace! :)
Again, thanks for your help!

Nina Gorman Fund
The Nina Gorman Fund supports sarcoma care and education at South Shore Hospital. Nina Gorman was a long-time Ocean Spray executive who passed away in February 2011, after a courageous six month battle with liposarcoma. Her fund supports four major areas of care:
- Special education and technology to enable visiting nurses and Hospice caregivers the give the best possible care to sarcoma patients.
- Equipment and training to provide clinicians at the South Shore Hospital Cancer Center with more tools to diagnose and treat patients with this rare form of cancer.
- Clinical research trials.
- Support services for patients and their families.
South Shore Hospital, a dynamic, growing regional medical center founded in 1922, exists to benefit the 750,000 residents of Southeastern Massachusetts by promoting good health, and by healing, caring and comforting. As the largest hospital in the region and the 7th largest in Massachusetts, South Shore Hospital receives over 400,000 patient visits each year. Patients and their families have access to the most advanced medical care through the Hospital’s longstanding clinical affiliations with Children’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital.
