THE STORY:

John wrote-

I am running my third Boston Marathon this April.  With the many great charity affiliates with the Boston Marathon, I am happy to tell you that I have been selected to represent Spaulding Rehab's Race for Rehab Team in 2013!

Spaulding is a great place for many reasons. For my family, Spaulding holds special meaning with the Adaptive Sports Program. This program allows people with disabilities to participate in cycling and water sports among other activities.

My son Tommy, as many of you know, was born very early.  Having Aspergers and being legally blind presents many challenges for him. Sports and physical activity is not an easy thing but his participation with the Adaptive Sports Program has given Tommy  the thrill of experiencing sports that he would not otherwise have a chance to enjoy.  The water sports are really amazing.

For those recovering from traumatic injury and for those living with disabilities, I’d appreciate your financial and emotional support  in my fundraising and training events for the Adaptive Sports program at Spaulding Rehab.

Thanks,

John

As our Race for Rehab Marathon Team trains to complete the historic 26.2 miles in April, Spaulding is getting closer to crossing another finish line.

In April 2013, Spaulding will move to a brand new facility in Charlestown.  This state-of-the-art facility will be a special resource for Greater Boston, New England, and beyond. It will greatly enhance clinical capacities, provide comfortable and accessible patient accommodations, promote a truly transformative clinical research enterprise, and be a source of aesthetic enjoyment for the community.

Located on a beautiful site with harbor views and dock facilities for therapeutic water sports and community use. The design supports a holistic therapeutic approach that will help restore patients’ independence and facilitate their transition back into the community, while at the same time welcoming the public, at all levels of ability and mobility.

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital's journey started in 1970. Now, one of the largest and most sophisticated rehabilitation networks in the United States, Spaulding provides comprehensive rehabilitation services.  With the flagship location in Boston, MA, the network is made up of Spaulding Boston, Spaulding Cape Cod, Spaulding North Shore, Spaulding Cambridge, 23 outpatient centers and two skilled nursing facilities throughout Massachusetts.

Our dedicated team of specialists help patients get back into the action of their every day lives as soon as possible – often with astonishing results. Our motto, "Find Your Stength" reflects this mission.  The Race for Rehab team will Find Their Strength as they take on this amazing endeavor - and we can't wait to greet them at the finish in April 2013.
