THE STORY:

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital wrote -

As our Race for Rehab Marathon Team trains to complete the historic 26.2 miles in April, Spaulding is getting closer to crossing another finish line.

In April 2013, Spaulding will move to a brand new facility in Charlestown.  This state-of-the-art facility will be a special resource for Greater Boston, New England, and beyond. It will greatly enhance clinical capacities, provide comfortable and accessible patient accommodations, promote a truly transformative clinical research enterprise, and be a source of aesthetic enjoyment for the community.

The hospital is located on a beautiful site with harbor views and dock facilities for therapeutic water sports and community use. The design supports a holistic therapeutic approach that will help restore patients’ independence and facilitate their transition back into the community, while at the same time welcoming the public, at all levels of ability and mobility.

As Boston’s first stand-alone hospital to be built according to “green” building principles, the new Spaulding facility boasts copious natural lighting and ventilation, and constructed with environmentally friendly building materials. The hospital is designed for comfort, accessibility, and clinical effectiveness, informed by the core belief that variation in human ability is ordinary, not special.

Founded in 1970, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is one of the largest and most sophisticated rehabilitation facilities in the United States, providing comprehensive rehabilitation services.

A member of Partners HealthCare, Spaulding is the only New England rehabilitation hospital that has been ranked annually since 1995 by U.S.News and World Report in its Best Hospitals survey. Most recently, Spaulding was ranked number 5 in the country.

Spaulding Rehabilitation Network is the largest provider of rehabilitation medicine in New England. With its flagship located in Boston, MA, the network is made up of Spaulding Boston, Spaulding Cape Cod, Spaulding North Shore, Spaulding Cambridge, 23 outpatient centers and two skilled nursing facilities throughout Massachusetts.

Our dedicated team of specialists help patients get back into the action of their every day lives as soon as possible – often with astonishing results. We offer seven major inpatient programs, each of which is interdisciplinary to bear on the needs of each patient. We offer Rehabilitation programs for Amputee and Vascular Disease, Brain Injury, Cardiac, Child and Adolescent, Musculoskeletal, Spinal Cord Injury and Stroke.
