EVENT: 2013 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2013
I am excited to share that I am running the 117th Boston Marathon on April 15th as a member of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital’s Race for Rehab Team. The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest continuously running marathon and is certainly one of the most prestigious. Elite runners from across the globe flock to Boston just to compete in it. I feel very privileged to be part of this historic event through the Marathon's charity program in support of Spaulding Rehab.
Those of you who have been following my training progress know it has been no easy task. Though I was a track athlete in high school, before joining the Race For Rehab it had been a few years since I'd done any serious running. Since October, I have battled freezing cold days, winter storms and various injuries while continuing to increase my mileage. And now after months of committed training, the big day is just a few short weeks away. But before I get to the starting line I need to reach my fundraising goal of $5,000. And I can't do it without your help!
Spaulding Rehab is very important to my family and I. My mother, Suzzette Chiong-Oglesby, has dedicated 35 years of service working at Spaulding. She continues to make a difference in the lives of her patients while striving to help them make remarkable recoveries. My mother has been a source of inspiration for me, and I am proud to be running the Boston Marathon for Spaulding Rehab in her honor.
Your donations will support Spaulding and help countless rehabilitation patients to find their strength. I have seen the impact of their work first hand and I fully believe in this cause. I am truly grateful for your consideration and for any contribution you make to my fundraising. If you are interested in giving, please find some suggested donation amounts corresponding to significant marathon milestones.
$35.00 ($1 for each year my mother has worked at Spaulding Rehab)
$54.40 ($2 per mile)
$117 (to recognize the 117th Boston Marathon)
$131 ($5 per mile)
$262 ($10 per mile)
Thank you. Wish me luck! -Sam
