My name is Jennifer Algarín and I am a second year veterinary student at Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. From August 9th
until August 15th, I will be in Spirit Lake located in east-central North Dakota volunteering with an organization called HSVMA-RAVS.
The Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association Rural Area Veterinary Services program combines high quality direct-care veterinary field clinics with clinical training for future veterinary professionals to improve the health and welfare of animals in remote rural communities. A team of 30 veterinary students including myself and 15 professional volunteers will offer free spay/ neuter and wellness care to more than 1,000 animals in these remote communities where regular veterinary care is not available. In addition to wellness services, we will care for animals with a wide range of health concerns including puppies suffering from parvovirus and distemper infections and animals with life-threatening tick-borne illnesses.
HSVMA-RAVS is a non-profit organization and run by volunteers, funds are needed for things such as supplies and travel expenses. Please consider donating to HSVMA-RAVS to help our team bring much-needed services to Spirit Lake, ND. ALL donations benefit HSVMA-RAVS, and I will be covering my travel expenses! Thank you for your support!
