Dear Friends and family,
On June 30th, I will be participating in the 2012 Tusk USA/Safaricom Half marathon at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Northern Kenya. Miles (age 14) is coming along and participating in the 5k. While he definitely has youth, height, and overall fitness in his favor, the long run is limited to ages 17 and up. It will be great to have him there to push his old mom along; particularly amongst wildlife and at an altitude of 5000 feet! I am certainly not trying to set any records against Kenyan runners (maybe I’ll get a prize as top “elder” runner from Alabama??), but I have committed to raising $1500 for Tusk USA. Tusk and the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy share the common goal of using wildlife conservation as a catalyst to alleviate poverty, reduce conflict, and improve livelihoods of people living in rural areas rich in biodiversity. Funds raised from this event will be used in a wide range of projects benefitting sustainable development, education, healthcare, and wildlife.
I would greatly appreciate any donations towards my goal. No amount is too small (or too large!). I will be (or Jay is, actually) covering all of our expenses for this trek to Africa which means that 100% of donations go directly to Tusk USA. The money raised will be a tremendous boost to projects on the ground in Africa.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and generosity. It WILL make a difference!
