Since 1976, Stepping Stone has focused on providing recovery services for the San Diego LGBT community. Over its 39 year history, Stepping Stone has helped thousands of men and women recover from a seemingly hopeless life of alcoholism, drug addiction, and co-occurring disorders and situations that often accompany those issues.
Stepping Stone: Saving Lives.
Stepping Stone is one of the few LGBT-focused residential recovery centers in the nation. Each year, they help over 100 new individuals who want to be treated for their drug and alcohol problems. They do not discriminate on the basis of ability to pay – they have programs available that cover most if not all of the cost of our program, and they have a limited number of beds available for private-pay clients as well.
Stepping Stone is a hybrid social model recovery program, where residents undergo intensive education, counseling and exposure to 12-step and other recovery programs, and sets an effective foundation for a life free of drugs and alcohol.
In addition, they treat the whole person at Stepping Stone, addressing long-neglected “other issues” such as mental health, HIV and AIDS, and trauma. They believe – and our statistics support – that their holistic approach leads to excellent success for their residents.
