BENEFITING: STOKED MENTORING
ORGANIZER: STOKED MENTORING
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2011
For the past few years I've been watching the New York City Marathon and have been inspired each and every time, only to not do anything about it. Well, the time has come to man up (a la William Wallace) and join the race.
I thought I was taking the easy road by finding a charity that would grant me a guaranteed entry into the race, but I just have to say nothing about this has been easy so far. It's given me a new-found respect for those that have done this before me. The training is a lot and I've gone through some pain, but all in all, it's been very rewarding. I am very dedicated to the schedule despite the early mornings and the occasional hot runs which will soon be traded in for extremely cold (and potentially rainy) ones.
And so now I am reaching out to you - Family, Friends, Facebook friends, and friends of friends including, but not limited to, facebook friends of other facebook friends. I need your support in the form of $$$, but only if you are able. I don't want anyone to feel pressured into supporting me or Stoked Mentoring, but please know that all and anything (no matter how little) will be greatly appreciated. And if you can't do that, then maybe just a kind word of support because I'll need those too.
My goal this year will be to complete the marathon (26.2 miles) in just under 4 hours. To put that in perspective, I could watch Dances with Wolves (the director's cut - 236 minutes long) or listen to Don McLean's American Pie...28 times. Neither one sounds all that good at the moment, but you get the idea.
So that should about do it. Thanks in advance to all those that donate. Your money is going to a great cause (see below) and you're helping to support me or put me through pain. Either way you want to look at it, I've still got to run 26.2 miles. Here's to the cause...here's to the pain...but more importantly, here's to the goal and the light at the end of the tunnel. In the words of Sports Night (favorite tv show ever)...
DANA: I didn't know we could do that! Did you know we could do that? CASEY: Well, when I forget, something usually reminds me.
Team Stoked is a group of tastemakers who proactively support the Stoked mission on foot, board, or bike. We believe that action sports are a means to empowering youth from under-served communities to achieve a more successful future. We are willing to prove this by mentally and physically challenging ourselves through sport.
This is Stoked's 4th consecutive year as a bronze level charity partner of the ING New York City Marathon! All the funds raised through Team Stoked will directly support Stoked's action sport-based youth development programs in New York City and Los Angeles.
