Greetings Team Levin!
2012 marks the ten-year anniversary of the passing of my father, Paul Levin. In September 2001 he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), the most common and most aggressive of the primary brain tumors. He battled hard for nine months before the destructive cancer took his life in May 2002. It was an uphill battle for everyone in his life, watching him say he believed strongly he was living with cancer, not dying from it. I am inspired to this day by the strength he displayed.
His words for my siblings and me were, “Turn your gifts into achievements.” Paul understood the path to happiness must come from within.
As my 30th birthday approaches and my ambitions in life come together, those words resonate stronger every day. Running has become a passion of mine, stemming from my love for sports from an early age. I completed two marathons four and six years ago, and the new opportunity to run in the New York City Marathon has arisen. My bib will come from Stand Up to Cancer and I will raise money for them in honor of my father with the goal that future research can give hope to similar victims.
The possibility to help in this way is important to me in such a monumental year for my father. My goal is one thousand dollars for each of the ten years we hold Paul strongly in our memories!
I am pledging to you now that I will be running the 2012 NYC Marathon this November. With your help, I will raise $10,000 for Stand Up To Cancer.
I am grateful for however much you can contribute, whatever the amount, large or small. If you can’t give anything I ask you for your support – thoughts, prayers, vocal shouting in person or over social media, whatever you can do. Team Levin will thrive! This is a daunting task, but I am invigorated by the challenge. Thank you in advance for your support!
