As most of you know, I've been very athletic all my life. In the past 6+ years, I've discovered the joy (and pain) of endurance sports, particularly mountain biking and running. As I completed my last (3rd) full marathon, I was thrilled to have finished once again. It was certainly a worthy accomplishment. I wondered after finishing, though, if I could somehow share that achievement to a cause outside of my own. Unfortunately, that time has come for me earlier than expected.
My dearest Aunt Mona, one of the sweetest women on this planet, was recently diagnosed with pancreatic and stomach cancer which has also metastasized to her liver. She is like a second Mom to me and helped raise me when I was young. The suffering I will experience by the time I pass mile 20 will be nothing compared to the treatment that she receives to combat this affliction. This has been a complete surprise to our whole family and Aunt Mona has taken all this with a smile. Her one life lesson for me has been, "Enjoy life everyday!" And I do. To show Aunt Mona, and thousands of others across the nation battling cancer, that I support their fight, I'm running the 2012 Long Beach International Full Marathon.
Please support our cause to raise funds for cancer research through Stand Up To Cancer and help brave patients like Aunt Mona fight on. Your kind donation, however small, will help researchers rid cancer once and for all. Thank you!
