THE STORY:

Molly and Ariel met at 18 months old. Now, at 28, they are planning on swimming, biking, and running together at the Mini Mighty Man Triathlon in April.

If you had told them a year ago that they would be competing in a sprint triathlon they probably would have fallen on the floor laughing. Neither had run a day in her life, save thrashing around in their free movement dance class at age 3, and now they will not only be running two miles but they'll be doing it after a 400 meter swim and a six mile bike ride! (Thank you Couch to 5k!)

Just completing this race will be a spectacular achievement for both women, but they decided to up the ante to increase their motivation and hopefully help a talented and driven young man go to college. Ariel was recently in Zimbabwe with her husband where they met an orphan, Tawanda Chibisa, at the St. Joseph's House for Boys. Tawanda has been a high achiever in high school and wishes to attend college but lacks the funds. With your help, Molly and Ariel are working with the Zimbabwe Orphans Fund to raise money to send him for his first year of university.

Here is a note from Tawanda:

My name is Tawanda Chibisa and I was born on the 18th of December 1993 in Mrehwa, Zimbabwe. I'm the only son of a family of three. My father passed away when I was three and a decade later, days before my thirteenth birthday, my mother succumbed to cancer. My teenage sister became pregnant around the same time as the death of my mother, she eloped, and I didn't see her again for the next four years. Losing both my parents and my older sister leaving meant that my younger half-sister and I found ourselves living on the street.

Luckily, after about 6 months in the streets I was admitted to the St. Joseph's House for Boys and my sister was taken in at the Harare Children's Home. Ever since I was a young boy I have been driven by my passion to learn. I was always first in my class and my mother wanted me to be a doctor but I have a strong desire to study law. I was captain of the debate team at school and I am a confident public speaker. I sometimes lobby issues on behalf of the other boys at St. Joseph's and I am quite good at arguing the cases. It has been my desire to study at a South African University because of their advanced tertiary education. What has helped me achieve the little I have so far is my love for God, my belief that I'm the master of my own destiny, and my desire to change my life and help my little sister so she will not  have to struggle.

I may not have the opportunity to meet all of you but I hope you will feel positive knowing that you helped an orphan from Zimbabwe achieve his dream. THANK YOU!

Tawanda is applying to Midrand University and the University of Capetown. Both cost $3,000 for one year. Our goal is to raise $4,000 to cover Tawanda's first year tuition, travel and visa expenses, and money for school supplies.
