Three Rivers Rowing Association (TRRA) is a nonprofit organization committed to developing and delivering safe, sustainable programs and events that promote the benefits of rowing and paddling to a diverse and growing membership. The organization offers an array of rowing and paddling programs that fit the needs of all rowing teams and individuals. The community-oriented rowing association offers programs for the visually impaired and persons with disabilities, urban youth, high school and college students, corporate rowing teams and adult rowers.
All funds raised by participants in the Dick's Sporting Goods Marathon will go towards one specific outreach program at TRRA called First Row. The mission of the First Row program is to engage Pittsburgh’s urban high school girls in a community rowing program that cultivates self-discipline, confidence, team-building and improved health. Money raised will cover transportation, equipment, apparel, race/travel expenses, swim lessons and coaching staff.
Returning athletes compete in Head of the Ohio regatta on October 6, 2012. All athletes participate in two indoor races over the winter, TRRA Indoor Sprints and North Allegheny Indoor Race in January and March respectively. In the spring, all athletes have the opportunity to race on the water in the Scholastic Sprints Regatta in May, other local scrimmages and travel to an away race.
