The day after "shelter in place" order was lifted after the Marathon bombings last April, I decided to run this half marathon. I've never done one before; I turn 61 a month after the race; and it was important to me to turn up and turn out; so THIS IS THE YEAR.
And I wanted to run it with SOLE TRAIN, Trinity Boston Foundation's free non-competitive running-based mentoring program for Boston middle and high school students. Watch the inspiring SOLE TRAIN story here.
On the day of my first run, I was nervous I couldn't even do my training goal of 3 miles, but the youth leader who was sending us off that day, said, "Go slow if you have to; just keep moving, people; you won't die!" His words got me through that run, and the others since then.
That attitude - slow down if you need to, and run together, but keep moving. Is what Sole Train is all about. Adults run with youth; youth run with one another; and it's not at all clear who is supporting whom!
I am raising $500 for the Trinity Boston Foundation by running the BAA half marathon Sunday October 13. Will you sponsor me for $50? That's less than $4/mile!
