BENEFITING: UBUNTU EDUCATION FUND
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2011
Ubuntu Education Fund's Story:
Ubuntu Education Fund, is an organization with the goal of transforming the lives of children in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Ignoring traditional development models, they redefined the theory of “going to scale”; rather than expanding geographically, Ubuntu drew a seven- kilometer radius around a community of 400,000 people. Ubuntu has created an integrated system of medical, health, educational, and social services that ensures a child who is either orphaned or vulnerable could, after several years, succeed in the world of higher education and employment.
HIV Pediatric Clinic in the Ubuntu Centre:
The pediatric HIV clinic is the first of it’s kind in our region. It is a world-class health facility where we provide life-saving medical services to any child who needs it. The fundraising efforts for the NYC Marathon will directly support the operation of our clinic; ensuring thousands of children have access to life-saving medical care.
