BENEFITING: UBUNTU EDUCATION FUND
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2011
My cousin Jake founded Ubuntu Education Fund 13 years ago, and I have watched it grow into and absolutely amazing non-profit organization. I personally visited Ubuntu in South Africa and got to see first-hand the impact they are having on thousands of children. This November, I will be running the New York City Marathon to help raise funds for Ubuntu's new HIV Pediatric Clinic.
HIV Pediatric Clinic in the Ubuntu Centre:
The pediatric HIV clinic is the first of it’s kind in the region. It is a world-class health facility where Ubuntu provides life-saving medical services to any child who needs it. By contributing towards my marathon campaign, you will directly support the operations of the clinic; ensuring thousands of children have access to life-saving medical care.
Who is Ubuntu Education Fund?
Ubuntu Education Fund, is an organization with the goal of transforming the lives of children in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Ignoring traditional development models, they redefined the theory of “going to scale”; rather than expanding geographically, Ubuntu drew a seven- kilometer radius around a community of 400,000 people. Ubuntu has created an integrated system of medical, health, educational, and social services that ensures a child who is either orphaned or vulnerable could, after several years, succeed in the world of higher education and employment.
