Welcome, and thank you for visiting my page to learn more about my marathon journey!
Watching the NYC marathon every year, I'm consistently awe-struck by the courage and commitment of the runners. Each person has a special reason for running and by the end of the race they are forever changed. It is clear how much that day means to them. I'll admit long distance endurance is not my gift, but in the past couple years I've found my own reasons for running, and this year, I'll be one of those marathoners! 26.2 miles is a big (okay, huge!) goal for me, and at times in the race I may more closely resemble the "tortoise" than the "hare", but I promise I will work hard, train hard and I will do my very best. I will achieve this goal. : )
Aside from my personal motivation, I'm also inspired to run for my charitable partner, UNICEF. Throughout my travels, what sticks with me the most are the children I've met along the way (some of my little friends are pictured here on my page - from Cambodia, Kenya and Peru). My interaction with these kids was both moving and heartbreaking. Some were without parents, money or shoes... going to work, or minding siblings, as young as 8 years old. While we rarely shared a common language, smiles, waves, songs and pictures created universal moments of shared joy. I'm pleased to say that everything donated through my page will benefit UNICEF, and in turn, children like “my kids” and their families. Your gifts will provide immunizations, nutrition, education and social programs to build safer, healthier environments and brighter futures around the world.
Thank you for supporting me and UNICEF in this marathon experience (it means the world)!
With love and gratitude,
