BENEFITING: UNITED MITOCHONDRIAL DISEASE FOUNDATION INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 07, 2012
I am Gary Moberly and I am running my second Chicago marathon. This event is the highlight of the year for me! The first year I ran for a large charitable organization and I was struck by how many runners were using their time and talent to raise money for charity. I got the idea to raise funds for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation ( UMDF). In 2012, UMDF is a Contributing Charity in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
Our daughter Julia has mitochondrial disease. For her first 10 years, she was a happy, healthy, smart and talented girl. She began having seizures when she was nearly 11 and has since lost much of her motor skills, vision, and ability to process information. She cannot walk or attend school, but she works extremely hard with her physical, occupational, and speech therapy. It is like Julia runs a marathon every single day just to eat, bathe, get dressed and get around. Today, there is no cure for Mitochondrial Disease. Please consider joining our cause.
