BENEFITING: United Way of Metropolitan Chicago
ORGANIZER: United Way of Metropolitan Chicago
EVENT DATE: Oct 12, 2014
I got into this running thing about 4 years ago, but I’ve always defaulted to calling myself a “fat guy who runs” rather than a runner. I guess what I mean is I started slow, in every sense of the word. Over the years I’ve upped my speed and mileage, dropped some weight, and really grown to love the sport.
I set a personal record for the half marathon last November, so I decided I’d might as well man up and do the full. Now, look, I’m not exactly built for long distances (see “fat guy who runs”), so I may not have more than one of these things in my future. As such, I wanted to make sure the marathon I picked was special, and I could think of no better race than my hometown Chicago Marathon.
I’m stoked to run my first marathon, and to raise money for Team United Way while doing it. My goal is to raise $1000, so any support is greatly appreciated. I promise I’ll do my best to have you all in mind on mile 26 as I plod my way to the finish line.
