BENEFITING: United Way of Metropolitan Chicago
ORGANIZER: United Way of Metropolitan Chicago
EVENT DATE: Oct 12, 2014
This year, I decided to challenge my mind and body by signing up for the Chicago Marathon. Yes, the full 26.2. I am very excited for the opportunity to take on this experience and would love your help and support.
I never used to like running. Heck, I even cheated when running "the mile" in 5th grade - that's how much I hated it. I decided to run a 5k in 2012 and to my surprise, I didn't die. Woot! So I kept running. One day, I magically ran 4.5 miles like it was no problem. A murmur of doing a half marathon was being tossed around, so I decided to challenge myself. I could do this...right? Training day after training day, I pushed my body to become strong enough to complete a half marathon. And guess what? I did it.
I successfuly completed my first half marathon in October 2013. I was so tired and so sore, but I loved it and wanted more. I have recently completed my second half marathon in April 2014 (a whopping 14 mins faster than my first!) and am signed up to run my third half marathon in May 2014. I find a peace when running - my own personal me time. The clock seems to stop, I forget that I'm running, and I just go. So this year I decided that I should run a marathon in none other than Chicago, IL.
I am running with Team United Way to benefit the United Way of Chicago in order to strengthen the education, income, and health of the city. My goal is to raise $1500 and would love your support of this charity, and overall, the support and well wishes that my body doesn't completely shut down.
Whether you donate, $10, $50, $100, or anywhere in between, I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness in helping me achieve my goal.
As a supporter of Team United Way, you will help to change the story for children and families in 58 communities of greatest need across the Chicago region.
I can't thank you enough for all of your support!
With much appreciation,
