BENEFITING: United Way of Metropolitan Chicago
ORGANIZER: United Way of Metropolitan Chicago
EVENT DATE: Oct 12, 2014
My dad was one of the best natural athletes I ever knew. He had a natural grace and athleticism, and I remember when I was young, watching him put on his shoes and go out for a run. I never ran with him, and I still regret that. The team photo on this page is of my father on the McLeansboro, Illinois varsity basketball team. He's on the far right with the goofy look on his face. To the left of him is his brother, Steve, and next to Steve is Jerry Sloan, former Chicago Bull and coach of the Utah Jazz.
My father was also a remarkably generous man. Even after he had been diagnosed with Alzheimers, he volunteered his time and skills, and among other things, travelled to New Orleans with his church men's group with tools and materials to help rebuild.
So, in memory and honor of my dad, and to try to live up to the standards he set, I'm running in this year's Chicago marathon, and helping to raise funds for the United Way of Metropoligan Chicago.
