BENEFITING: United Way of Metropolitan Chicago
ORGANIZER: United Way of Metropolitan Chicago
EVENT DATE: Oct 12, 2014
The past 5 years I've been telling myself, “I'm going to run a marathon!” Well that year has finally come!
I Simone Elisse McCrary will be challenging my BODY, MIND and SOUL for 26.2 miles as I run the eminent Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 12, 2014.
From the time I decided to run I knew that I needed to run for a charity that was near and dear to my heart. Although I knew I could just run the 26.2 miles, I needed the extra boost of encouragement. As always, my encouragement came from helping those less fortunate than myself. Subsequently, I've decided to run for United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. I've been volunteering with United Way since 2009, when I successfully ran a 5K and I am currently a member of the Young Leaders Society.
I am passionate about United Way’s mission because there is no other singular organization that has the bandwidth, the knowhow and the on-the ground efforts to bring individuals from poverty to self-sufficiency. They do this by providing more than a million individuals, across our greater Chicagoland the tools they need to succeed: income, education and health. As you know when people are educated, they usually obtain gainful employment, which comes with a healthcare plan and retirement package. Thus these basic building blocks lead to independent productive citizens.
My goal is to raise $2,000 for Team United Way. All proceeds will help our very own Chicago community to strengthen those building blocks to self-sufficiency within education, income and health.
No dollar amount it too small! As you know, the beauty of philanthropy is when we pool our resources together we are able to create sustainable change. I am appreciative of whatever dollar amount you feel led to give. As a supporter of TEAM UNITED WAY, you will help to change the story for children and families in Chicago’s communities of greatest need.
Last but certainly not least, on Oct 12, 2014 come cheer me on as I challenge myself in my longest run ever! Thank you for reading and thank you in advance for your support!
