"Why UPS loves the Marathon as much as We love Logistics"
This year through Crowdrise, UPS has established a UPS team site to encourage those running via UPS’ entries to consolidate their chartible fundraising on one site. …..
Another way that UPSers can show how much they love what they do.
Run for a cause
UPSers, our customers and friends will also run in the marathon. Some run to stay in shape. Others run to support a charity – or both. UPS has a long history of encouraging its employees to volunteer in the communities where we live and work. If you are running to support a cause, spread the word. Set up your own Crowdrise page. Link to your charitable agency. Then tell your friends and family about it and encourage them to donate. Donors can contribute to any charity using a credit card through Crowdrise. Make your marathon run pay off for a charity that matters to you. Thank you for making a difference.
This gives many ambitious employees and customers the chance to run the marathon. Always supportive of the ways in which our employees and customers stay healthy, we cheer for them each year in this endeavor. And encourage them to share the spirit of philanthropy in raising money for a variety of charitable groups.
Gear from here to there
The marathon is all about logistics - Runners traversing 26 miles, thousands of spectators tracking them, moving equipment, food, people and gear from here to there. All of this takes planning followed by perfect execution. For the past 15 years, UPS has been a fundamental partner in making it all come together logistically. UPS is proud of the expertise and energy that it takes to give a one-of-a-kind experience for runners and supporters alike each year.
Ever wondered how the participants at the ING New York Marathon get their coats, sweats, street shoes and keys from start to the finish? Just ask anyone who has participated in the marathon and they will tell you: UPS volunteers. UPS not only delivers packages, but also delivers goodwill in the community.
For the fifteenth consecutive year, more than 300 UPS volunteers will collect specially-designed tote bags containing gear for more than 40,000 marathon participants before the start of the race. UPS volunteers will transport the goods in a caravan of over 70 UPS package cars, (that is, the big brown truck), to the finish line to make a massive same-day delivery. Like all UPS “shipments”, we, make it easy for runners to locate their items when reach the finish line. Every day, UPS delivers nearly 15 million packages and documents in more than 220 countries and territories around the world. So, ensuring that marathon runners get their gear at the end of the race is right up our alley.
Helpful feet on the street
Our support of the ING New York City Marathon epitomizes the UPS spirit of volunteerism. Giving back to the communities in which we live and work is a pillar in our mission statement. Our employees are second to none when it comes to their commitments to charity and volunteerism. The Marathon is a great example of that.
Did you know? In 2011, UPS plans to donate $95 million to charitable causes around the world. And has given over 1 Billion in the past 30 years to United Way. UPS’s charitable arm - the UPS Foundation - focuses on five areas to help the community it serves:Nonprofit Effectiveness, Economic and Global Literacy, Diversity, Community Safety, and Environmental Sustainability. These focus areas, together with The Foundation’s programs in education, its support for United Way, and the impact of UPS volunteers, create a variety of ways UPS makes a difference.
UPS congratulates all the runners of this year’s New York City Marathon. We look forward to another terrific race.
