BENEFITING: MYTEAM TRIUMPH
A message from Cassi:
"Eric and I have been running together since the day we started dating. We would meet up after work, slip on our running shoes, and hit the local trails and treadmills to pound out miles while sharing our thoughts with each other. In 2005 we completed our first full marathon and at the finish line vowed never to do something that crazy again. 7 years, 4 kids, and loads of 5k's, 10k's and Half Marathons later, we've decided to take on the task of the mighty 26.2 once again! This time, however, we're not doing it for personal gain or a PR, but for a much greater cause. We are loaning our legs to run for others!
When we were invited to join "Ainsley's Angels" for the Marine Corps Marathon, chills over took my body. I knew instantly that this was something we were meant to do. Eric and I are always planning future mission trips and dreaming of ways we can help the community at large, but with 4 young children, it is difficult to find active ways to give. By running with Ainsley's Angels, we will be able to reach out and help a child by giving them experience of crossing the finish line of an endurance event that they would otherwise never have the opportunity to complete. I think back to the first time I crossed the finish line of my own marathon and I get goosebumps at the thought of giving that same rush of joy to someone else.
The money raised for Ainsley's Angels will help purchase the equipment and support needed to provide these beautiful children the chance to be a part of these incredible events. Whether it be one dollar or twenty, please consider helping us reach our goal in any way you can! Every bit counts; Thank you!"
We are an athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races. Visit our website for more information!
Since we currently do not have any membership fees for our Captains (those we push) or our Angels (those who push), our mission is dependent on your support. Among the things donations will be used for include: purchasing an enclosed equipment trailer; maintaining/purchasing jogger chairs, bike trailers, and boat rafts; purchasing team uniforms; ensuring all Captains never pay for a single event, and continuing to provide for the best events possible for our Captains and their families! We also aim to support local special needs schools, programs, and organizations, while also offering an annual out-of-area trip/race for our special rider athletes.
You might be wondering, who is Ainsley?
Well, our organization's namesake does not talk or walk; she does not play for fun; but she smiles, while out for a run. An inspiration to thousands, she is an amazing little girl with a smile that will light up any room. Shortly after being diagnosed with an extremely rare progressive genetic nerve disorder called Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD), Ainsley completed the Surfer's Healing Virginia Beach 5K road race. Her first of many running-aided, wind-induced smiles took our family's collective breath away as she received her finisher's medal and became an official Team Hoyt Virginia Beach (THVB) ATHLETE! Inspired by Dick and Rick Hoyt, and the only running team authorized by the Hoyt's to use their name, THVB provided Ainsley's family with a therapeutic means to fight the devastation associated with learning and trying to live with the fact that your child has a terminal illness. The positive energy surrounding the start line, the children smiling from ear to ear, the togetherness of every member preparing to "roll with the wind", the fearlessness of the athletes, the normalcy of the family, and the love we all have for each other is a therapy like no other. In an effort to spread this amazing experience to as many people as possible, Ainsley's Angels aims to see other families experience what the Hoyt's have experienced nearly 1100 times and what we have experienced over 40 times (so far). As such, we created this chapter of myTEAM Triumph to ensure others can "roll with the wind" and live up to the philosophy of, "Yes You Can."
