BENEFITING: WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL OF PITTSBURGH
ORGANIZER: WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL OF PITTSBURGH
EVENT DATE: May 05, 2013
WHY I'M RUNNING:
I believe so many problems in the world can be solved by education. I am running to support global education to help students in the U.S. find out about other parts of the world.
The U.S. is separated from Europe, Africa, and Asia by oceans and thousands of miles, but with the help of modern technology the World Affairs Council connects students in U.S. to these "remote" parts with a click of a button. The Council provides global education by hosting interactive workshops for students instead of with an uninspiring textbook, and sends a group of high school student to live and study abroad through their Global Travel Scholarship program.
I discovered that there is a big, huge world outside of Pittsburgh (and Waldorf, MD) and I feel so fortunate to have made friends in Russia, China and elsewhere while living abroad. My life has been enriched because of those experiences and am inspired to help others to discover new places and cultures too.
I am excited to be helping my health by training for the Half while helping others by supporting global education in U.S. schools.
Help me to help middle and high school students in Western PA discover the world through the World Affairs Council's award-winning educational programs!
