On April 16th, 2012, I will be running in the 116th annual Boston Marathon. This will be my very first marathon. In order to build up the stamina to run the 26.2 mile course from Hopkinton to Copley Square, I will be training all winter.
I will be running the race on behalf of Walker School, a Needham-based non-profit that I have supported for many years -- most recently as chair of the volunteer organization called Friends of Walker.
Walker School provides special education and mental health services to children who face extreme challenges in and out of the classroom. Children at Walker typically suffer from serious emotional and behavioral problems, acute learning disabilities, and mental illness. They often arrive at Walker in crisis, frightened and lonely. Their families are exhausted from a past filled with pain and despair.
Walker provides a place for these children and families to heal and grow, a place where they rediscover their strengths and discover new skills. Walker restores their hope and works to make children and families less fragile, more resilient, and better prepared to overcome obstacles for the rest of their lives.
For more information about Walker, visit http://walkerschool.org/about or contact me directly.
My goal is to raise at least $5,000 for Walker. If you are able to donate, you will be supporting an incredible cause, and inspiring me as I push myself past the finish line in April.
Thank you very much,
Update: I'm passed $5000! Thanks to everyone for the support. Let's keep going and see how much we can raise for Team Walker!
