THE STORY:

Hello,

I am about to embark on my second RAVS trip but this time as a veterinary student! I had so many wonderful experiences on my last trip in South Dakota and came away from that experience a changed person (and with a fantastic dog)!  I look forward to participating in this worthwhile venture again, providing much needed veterinary care to some very deserving people and their pets. Just look at Abbie, former rez dog extraordinaire!

I am personally covering my expenses of $400 but any support you can offer would go directly to supporting the RAVS mission of providing high quality veterinary care to improve the health and welfare of animals in remote rural communities as well as training and educating veterinary students and the public.

Thank you!

"RAVS is a wonderful place to learn and practice vital veterinary skills in a low pressure environment ... I think it is incredible that a team of mostly strangers from completely different backgrounds can come together and efficiently complete the seemingly daunting - yet incredible - task known as RAVS!" ~Kara Miller, Class of 2017, Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine

In May of 2015, HSVMA-RAVS staff and volunteers will travel to the
Pacific coast for 4 days of field clinics on the Quinault Reservation, and then head east to the mountains for 5 more days of field clinics on the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. The team of 30 veterinary students and 15 professional volunteers will offer free spay/ neuter and wellness care to hundreds of animals in these remote communities where regular veterinary care is not available.

In addition to wellness services, RAVS’ volunteers will care for animals with a wide range of health concerns including puppies suffering from parvovirus and distemper infections and older animals suffering from multiple infirmities. We will help animals with old traumatic injuries and festering wounds, returning them to a happier life with their family. While providing this care, our volunteers and staff will be educating the family on animal care and public health, helping to make the community a better place for the animals and the people of Quinault and Colville.
