WILL RUN FOR FOOD via Crowdrise
September 14, 2012
BENEFITING: WILL RUN FOR FOOD
EVENT DATE: May 05, 2013
Will Run for Food is committed to feeding the hungry in our region and throughout the world. We give to those in need in response to God’s grace in giving us salvation in Jesus Christ.
Will Run for Food offers a unique opportunity to serve those in desperate need of help and to combine forces for even greater impact on poverty here and abroad. In our three years as an official charity of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, Will Run for Food has raised more than $45,000 to fight hunger through the efforts of runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.
Globally, Will Run for Food supports Food for the Poor, Inc., which supplies basic needs for the people of Central America and the Caribbean. Our support has given three Haitian families a lift from poverty, including a house, food and clothing for one year, school supplies and tuition and a small business start-up. We have also constructed a water well for a village, purchased livestock, tons of rice and beans, and planted more than 100 fruit trees in the earthquake damaged Caribbean countries.
Locally, Will Run for Food has stocked food pantry shelves for Sonshine Ministries of McKeesport, PA, an area especially hit hard by plant closings and unemployment. We have been a source of food for more than 250 families in that area.
In our 2012 marathon campaign, Will Run for Food donated $1000 to Katie’s Kitchen, which serves hot meals weekly to those in need in Butler, PA.
Participation with Will Run for Food is easy. Fundraising goals for 2013 are:
Full marathon — $500
Half Marathon — $300
Relay Team — $750
5k — $200
