I would never have thought , not in a million years to wake up with someone I loved and that so many, many people loved only to experience unspeakable tragedy only a few hours later. January 25, 2014 was clearly a day that would change my life forever. My husband Dennis decided death was a better option than life . He left a message with his brother he was "checking out" he couldn't take it anymore. I was totally blindsided by his horrific decision. My once familiar world exploded with his suicide in an instant . I can't imagine his desperate state of mind. My hope for this walk is to bring awareness and to educate people on suicide and mental illness. Hopefully I can prevent someone else from experiencing the pain guilt and stigma associated with suicide. Suicide is different from other deaths. We who are left behind cannot direct our anger at the unfairness of a deadly disease or a random accident or a murderous stranger, instead we grieve for the very person who has taken our loved ones life.
I will probable never know what Dennis was thinking and for how long he planned for his death. I play it over and over in my head what I may have done differently to save him. Through my SOS support group I've learned that no matter how hard we try to help them sometimes its just not enough. I never want Dennis's death to be waisted so please join me to raise funds for education and awareness programs on mental health disorders and suicide awareness so future suicides may be prevented.
WE LOVE YOU "WIRGO" AND MISS YOU DEARLY !
