Isaac and Jillian Wisniewski

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for visiting our fundraising webpage!

As many of you already know, we will be running a 15k trail run followed by a 5k road race this Memorial Day Weekend in the Berkshires, MA. Isaac ran the half marathon last year, and Jillian ran the 5K just 5 months after giving birth to Isaac Edward.  It is a punishing and hilly course to say the least.  Our close friends, Sam Russo and Carrie Holland, inspired us with their generous efforts over the last two years when they both completed the marathon, half marathon, trail race, and 5K while raising over $55,000 for charity.  This year we look forward to sharing this experience with them again while helping them reach our team goal of $50,000 for Team Red, White, and Blue.  Team Red, White, and Blue is a chairty whose goal is to enrich the lives of America's veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.

We are both Captains in the US Army, where Isaac serves as an Apache helicopter pilot, and Jillian serves as a Military Intelligence officer. We both served in Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault!), and we have family members who served overseas as well. Jillian’s brother, Sergeant Jacob Morton, served multiple tours as an infantryman in Iraq where he was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds he received when his squad was targeted by a suicide bomber. Jillian’s grandfather, John Morton, served in the Korean War as an airman in the US Air Force, and her step-grandfather, J.C. Basinger, served in WWII and was part of the initial Army forces that stormed Omaha Beach. Also, Jillian’s great-uncle, Jim Gourley, served in Vietnam with the Army. Isaac’s uncle, John Wisniewski, was also an Army Vietnam veteran. Isaac’s grandfather, Edward Cantwell, served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. We are willing to bet that if you dig into your own family histories, you will likely find that you are a family member of veterans as well! We understand that the commitment to military service transcends generations and deeply affects the Soldiers and family members alike. Many Soldiers return home with post-traumatic stress disorder, injuries, or even head trauma—most of these afflictions deeply affect their personal lives and create a need for long term care well after their service obligations have ended. Many Soldiers make the ultimate sacrifice and never return home at all.

We were incredibly impressed with the amount of money that Sam and Carrie raised over the last two years. As friends united for a common goal, we hope that we collectively can raise $50,000, and we will strive to do that by first achieving our Team Wisniewski goal of $5,000 before we participate in the event on May 25th.

The Memorial Day Marathon Committee is contributing a portion of the race proceeds to Team Red, White, and Blue. In addition, this website will allow participants like ourselves to DIRECTLY raise money for the fund. Your donation will assist Team RWB in transforming the way that America supports its veterans when they return from combat. Team RWB communities of veterans, their families, and American citizens that enjoy authentic interaction through physical and social activities and events all across the country.  Please visit their website to learn more.
