EVENT: Boston Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! My name is Amy McDonaugh and I am a blind endurance athlete from South Carolina. This April I'll be running the Boston Marathon, a race that I won in 2013.
Not long after I ran my first 5K I was diagnosed with an arteriovenous malformation. My illness is rare and I wasn’t expected to live past age 12. I received 18 surgeries in 18 months, but due to a complication I lost my vision. In 2011, I ran the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati Ohio without a sighted guide and merely hoped to finish. At mile 24 I was handed a towel from a support vehicle and was instructed to clean off my face; everyone but me seemed to know that in 2 miles I would win the marathon.
As a bilnd marathoner, I love raising awareness of what can be possible even when blind. This will be my first year racing with Team With A Vision, and I am excited to meet other blind runners!
