"A disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa has me marching toward blindness. I've decided I'd rather run." - Erich Manser
This April, Erich and Peter will be lining up in Hopkinton MA, at the start of the 118th Boston Marathon, as members of the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired's Team With A Vision.
Diagnosed at age 3 with a condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa, Erich learned early on that he was facing a gradual loss of his eyesight eventually leading to total blindness. Despite the loss of his sight, Erich is a true visionary. He is an accomplished runner, swimmer, and triathlete, and he Erich juggles a busy training schedule with an even busier work schedule and home life. As a husband and proud father of two, Erich is thrilled to be racing in his 10th marathon with Peter by his side.
Peter Sagal has been host of the National Public Radio game show Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! since 1998. Since then, the show has become one of the most popular programs on public radio, heard by nearly three million listeners on 520 public radio stations nationwide, and heard by a million people every month via podcast. This will be Peter's second year racing and raising funds on Team With A Vision. He is also a regular columnist for Runner's World magazine, where he wrote about his experience as a sighted guide for Team With a Vision and being at the finish line near the Boston Marathon bombings. http://www.runnersworld.com/races/peter-sagal-eyewitness-to-bravery-horror
