BENEFITING: WOMEN FOR WOMEN INTERNATIONAL
ORGANIZER: WOMEN FOR WOMEN INTERNATIONAL
EVENT: Half the Sky Movement
A little over two years ago I picked up the book "Half the Sky" by chance while visiting the bookstore. I didn't know it at the time, but this book would have a profound impact on the way I would see the world, especially women's rights. After reading the book, I felt as though I needed to do something. So, I researched a few of the organizations mentioned in the book and selected Women for Women International as my nonprofit. I liked the idea that I would be able to support one woman at a time and be able to see her growth through her one year program. The programs developed by Women for Women International provides women in worn-torm counties the opportunity to educate themselves, provide job-skills training and financial aid so women can rebuild their lives and better the lives of their children.
So far I've had two sisters, Clemence and Sophie, complete the program and my third sister, Victorine, is currently enrolled. I love receiving letters in the mail updating me on their progress, along with handwritten letters from my sisters expressing their gratitude and providing updates along the way.
After watching the Half the Sky documentary on PBS, I was reminded of how much need there is for greater awareness and financial support. I saw this opportunity with Crowd Rise and thought it was a great way to share with you, my family and friends, a little piece of my journey. So, I joined the Women for Women International Team to help support this wonderful organization and spread awareness of these women's issues throughout the world. Plus, the fundraising team that raises the most money will receive an additional $20,000 donation.
It is my hope that you will join me in this movement and help support this wonderful organization. If you haven't read "Half the Sky" I would greatly recommend it - you could always borrow my copy! :)
Thank you for all of your support!
