BENEFITING: Warrior Wellness Center
My name is Amy B. and I am on a life changing mission. I started this mission on July 4th, 2014, Independence Day! I am going to lose weight and realize my optimal health. I was doing pretty good for about two weeks when I found myself struggling with momentum and motivation. Around that time, I started talking with my friend John about his project, the Warrior Wellness Center. The Warrior Wellness Center (WWC) is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization that provides health and wellness training to all military, veterans, and their families at no cost. The programs at the WWC promote physical and mental health stability that is instrumental in the recovery of our nation's returning warriors and their families.
That was it! I instantly found my motivation! I could help the WWC gain much needed funds the more weight I lost, by asking my friends, family, and strangers inspired by the dual purpose, to sponsor me at $1 per pound lost. The WWC's fundraising goal is $10,000 to get and keep doors open. My goal with this venture is $3,000, a very healthy donation to keep the ball rolling. This is a huge goal but I believe anything is possible! Lets show our thanks to our returning Warriors and their families by supporting the Warrior Wellness Center.
Weekly weigh-ins are Friday mornings. I've lost 11lbs since my first day and plan on utilizing a guided diet, traditional exercise, and yoga to reach my goal weight and optimal health. My goal is another 67lbs lost! If 45 people sponsor me at $1/pound that would help me exceed my goal of $3,000. Donations can be made weekly, monthly, or when I reach my goal weight. Donations can also be made for any amount at any time if you choose to support WWC independent of my personal story. All donations go directly to the Warrior Wellness Center.
8/1/14 Update- down 1.8lbs!
8/8/14 Update- down another 3.2lbs!!
8/15/14 Update- no loss this week
8/22/14 Update- an unfortunate gain of 1.2lbs. Turns out I'm allergic to the food from the diet and had to go off plan. I'll get it back under control.
8/29/14 Update- down 6.2lbs!! A total of 20.2lbs gone in the name of optimal health and the WWC! I made the switch to completely vegan and oil-free, what a week. Feeling great and sleeping much better.
9/5/14 Update- on week 3 of prednisone, trying to get the allergic reaction to the food under control. I think we've finally got it beat. The drugs have the unfortunate side effects of weight gain, inability to fall and stay asleep, and incredible hunger. All a recipe to blow up and lose sight of the goal. HOWEVER, thanks to my healthy eating habits and with the support of my friends and family, I was able to maintain last week's loss and not gain an ounce! 9 more days of prednisone then we're hopefully back to the grind full blast.
9/12/14 Update: .4lb gain. Not the end of the world. Two days hive-free!
9/19/14 Update: Down 2.8lbs! Total of 23lbs lost. After 12 days hive-free, they came back so I'm back on a higher dose of the prednisone. Really ready for that to be over! Keeping things light and happy really helped this week.
9/26/14 Update: Week 12 weigh-in and down 1.2lbs. Eight days hive-free but they're back. Did all the bloodwork last night so hopefully an answer soon. Lots of yummy recipes this week. Plant power is an amazing thing!
10/10/14 Update: I decided to take a couple weeks off from the weigh-ins. I'm tapering down on the prednisone and it's really making the numbers fluctuate and the hives are back. Altogether it's somewhat discouraging and not the part I should be focusing on. I see my derm Monday and will get back on track. No numbers to report, but I'll still share the link. Happy RED Friday, please keep all those Deployed in your thoughts.
