Name: Yelena Virovlyanskaya
Neighborhood: East Harlem
I love to act, sing, dance, play musical instruments, read, swim, ice skate and hang out with my friends. I also love to help people and make them happy. I like studying and learning new things.
One of my main challenges is to be more organized. I have a very busy schedule, many chores, and it’s difficult to keep everything under control. I am working on being able to balance everything without feeling stressed.
About me and my family:
My family is from Russia. I was born there and came to the United States when I was one year old. I have four younger siblings - three sisters and a brother. The youngest of my sisters are twins. My family is multicultural. I have Russian, Ukranian, and Jewish roots. We try to celebrate Russian, Ukranian, Jewish and American holidays and keep some traditions. My favorite Russian foods are pelmeni and blini. We like to travel a lot. We have traveled to different parts of the United States and visited some other countries. During the summer we always go camping. In the winter time we like ice skating and sledding.
Why you should support Downtown Art:
I love Downtown Art. It is a warm and friendly place where people work together to accomplish their goals of becoming great performers and entertain people. I’ve made a lot of friends here. Downtown Art helps build your artistic abilities -- and it is a place where people are not turned away for financial reasons. I always dreamed of performing in a musical - and my first musical here, “The Great Struggle for Cheap Meat” was a big success. All the people that came to see our performances enjoyed them very much. I would not exchange Downtown Art for anything else!
