BENEFITING: Armenian Youth Federation - YOARF
EVENT DATE: Jul 20, 2012
Our mission is to Help the community of Javakhk in as many ways as possible, and to establish a connection between the Armenian youth of the diaspora and the youth of Javakhk.
Through the "Tebi Javakhk" initiative, the chapters AYF-YOARF Eastern Region USA will dedicate their resources to assisting our brothers and sisters in Javakhk. The Central Executive would like Javakhk to be a topic of discussion within all of our Diasporan communities, and encourages everyone to help achieve all our collective goals. These include fundraising, collecting supplies and materials, providing assistance and resources for the AYF-YOARF ER Kids Day Camp project in Javakhk, and more. Please stay tuned for more information and updates, and help spread the word!
Javakhk is a historically Armenian region within modern-day Georgia. It neighbors Armenia and is populated in some cities as high as 94% by Armenians. This region faces many difficulties today, mainly as a result of harsh conditions imposed by the Georgian government. As the region's Armenian population has grown and flourished, the government became more and more afraid of a movement toward autonomy or liberation by the Armenians of Javakhk. The government has therefore been attempting to force the Armenian population out of their historical lands. Such basic necessities as electricity, water, heating and more are limited. Roads are destroyed, economy and agriculture is limited, and the Armenian population seems to be living in third world conditions within an area that is purposely left underdeveloped.
