Technology enlightenment for the less fortunate
Organized by: Victoria Wambui
I started doing charity work when I was in college. I would put aside some of my pocket money and share with the less fortunate. Mostly we would take for them foodstuff, clothing and other basic necessities for them to use. We would also cook and play, and give a word of advice. That really humbled me. After I completed college I didn't get employed and so I reduced my visits to the less fortunate because of finances. I later trained on how to work online and currently I'm a professional transcriber. I've also trained several people who are also now working online. What prompted me to start this fundraiser is to help the less fortunate to also learn the technology and know how they can use it to create a career if they lacked to secure a job like I did. Mostly they are taught about how to do agriculture which I believe is great but I also believe that even technology is growing fast and they need to be in the know too and up to date. Even with agriculture they need to have the basics of computer because there are apps that are coming up which can help also in doing agriculture. I plan with the help of other people who agree with me in this initiative to teach them from the basics of computer and even in more detail as they advance. This really makes me feel humbled that I'll help someone and impact their lives in a positive way because I believe some will create a career from this like I did. People can help by donating cash which will be used to purchase computers which will be used in training them or if possible people can help by donating the computers themselves. In the next three to five years it's estimated that about three billion new people will be using the internet. I wish to be a part of those contributing to the three billion people. Thank you.
