Each summer, thousands of teens set out to find summer employment. A few lucky ones find jobs, but the pay is usually minimum wage and the tasks are not challenging. Oftentimes, only those teens that are fortunate enough to have connections through their family or school are able to find summer jobs that provide growth and skill-building opportunities. Most of these positions are unpaid. For many teens (and their families), earning money over the summer is not optional, as this income can be essential to their survival.
In 2003, the West Side YMCA created the Teen Career Connection program to address this need. Over 350 deserving teens have participated in this life-changing program with paid placements at top New York City companies and nonprofit organizations such as Deloitte LLP, United Nations Federal Credit Union, The Clinton Foundation, and Susan G. Komen Greater NYC. We are now accepting contributions for the 2016 summer class. Contribute today and change the life path of a YMCA teen.
