Allow us to introduce (or reintroduce, for those of you familiar with us) ourselves, we're Teen HYPE (Helping Youth by Providing Education). We're a non-profit youth development organization with a mission to help Detroit youth get Ready for the World by empowering them through education.
We focus on youth development through four key components: education, safety, health and the arts, all of which are aimed toward preparing our youth for the world that awaits them, and now we're calling on you to help.
We're challenging YOU!
Are you Ready?
We're challenging you to help us get Detroit youth Ready for the World by donating to us so that we an we create more programs and initiatives that support our youth through education, safety, health and the arts.
Interested in why we're invested in our youth?
- The percent of DPS students considered “college ready” by the ACT in all test subjects was 1.2 percent in spring 2010. Academically, we support youth from age 12 to college and beyond. We offer homework help, personalized academic plans, scholarships and more.
- 1 in 2 children in Detroit live in poverty, the highest rate in the country among large cities. Teaching youth the importance of health is one of our key missions. For some, that's meeting the basics by providing healthy meals and nutritious snacks. Other times, it's providing medical and mental health services, sexual health classes and HIV counseling- no matter what aspect of health it is, we're here to support our youth.
- 1.5 Detroit teens died each week as a result of gun violence from 2008 to 2010. Teen HYPE is the "shelter in the storm" from many youth. We foster an inclusive space that welcomes all children regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic status and sexual orientation. We help with conflict resolution, anti-bullying strategies and creating positive relationships.
- Teens of low socioeconomic status with a history of arts involvement show better academic outcomes. All of our youth have talent and we create an inviting environment where they are encouraged to explore and discover the arts, so that they can find their passion. We use the arts to motivate, inspire and help kids express themselves and address the issues they face- from depression to bullying and social injustice.
