BENEFITING: ROSWELL PARK ALLIANCE FOUNDATION
Imagine being in high school and unable to attend the prom because a cancer diagnosis has changed your life. The fun of finding a new outfit is overshadowed by weight gain or loss from chemotherapy treatments. Picking out hairstyles becomes impossible when there’s no hair on your head. Asking a date to the dance may be out of the question when you’re not sure if upcoming surgeries will even allow you to go. For many teens diagnosed with cancer, this is their reality. But in Western New York, a social support program called Teens Living with Cancer (TLC) Buffalo steps in to ensure that teens with cancer don’t miss this milestone occasion.
This year, TLC will host the 3nd Annual TLC Prom, themed “Moonlight Masquerade,” specifically for these young cancer fighters. For many of these young people, this will be the only prom they attend. TLC hopes to create a magical evening for these well deserving teens, who will be able to enjoy prom with other high schoolers who understand what they’re going through.
We need your help to make “Moonlight Masquerade” a success. Please know that by being a part of the event, you are truly making a difference. TLC Buffalo is a peer-to-peer resource for teenagers through every stage of their cancer journey: from diagnosis, to treatment, and beyond.
TLC serves WNY teen cancer survivors and offers social support programs twice a month both at the TLC Center and at various venues in the Western New York area. Thank you for your consideration in helping make this year’s event a success.
