My name is Rashaan Keeton and I grew up in Powhatan, VA, just outside Richmond. While neither of my parents had four-year degrees, I understood from a young age that a college education would likely be a necessity if I wanted to pursue a career involving math or science. I developed a passion for chemistry in high school and chose to pursue a degree in chemical engineering at Cornell. I struggled at first, but with the help of my friends and the encouragement of Diversity Programs, I got the hang of it by my junior year. The following summer, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in green energy, so I enrolled in a graduate program for energy science at Carnegie Mellon after graduation, and now I work for an energy effiiciency firm.
Access to education allowed me to tailor my skill set to break into my dream career field. Please help me raise just $300 so another kid can do the same with the help of Practice Makes Perfect's summer program.
Update: We've already reached the $300 goal at the end of Week 1. New goal of helping TWO kids with $600.
