Tenchi Troupe is a Non-Profit 501(c)3 dance company designed to bring performing artistry to the children of rural communities. Through ballet training, the Artists (ages 5-17) learn that the only way to achieve goals is through Perseverance, Hard Work, Patience, and Respect. Tenchi Troupe runs in a ballet company format, where all ages and all dance levels come together to learn and grow together. This fosters an environment where children learn to respect the abilities of others and learn from their more advanced peers. Tenchi Troupe was founded by Rachel Vanover, a local school teacher in our community of Portland, TN. She is pro-bono, which means not a cent is given to her for her services. To quote Ms Vanover "I do this for the love of children and dance, nothing more". The troupe became Non-profit this year by the Federal Government and just recently became Non-Profit through the state of Tennessee. Tenchi Troupe has made a steady progress of servicing the children of rural communities, averaging about 30 a year. Parents praise the program for the low cost and children love the fact that Tenchi Troupe even exists. Some Accomplishments of Tenchi Troupe Artists: Anne Knight: Receiver of an invitation to join AMDA Tenchi Troupe has grown to a point where it needs a permanent home. The troupe needs a place to practice, to call home so that it can better serve the communities it was designed for.
