EVENT: #RiseToThrive Charity Challenge

EVENT DATE: Sep 10, 2013

THE STORY:

Help us to help others by raising funds to win the $25,000 grand prize for the #risetothrive Charity Challenge by Rush Card! Here at Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs, Inc. (TLCAD) we believe that “true wealth is being healthy” and that is what each one at TLCAD strives to keep ringing true with our four focus programs that continue to better our clients’ lives by:

- Reintegrating them back into society
- Helping restore the family unit
- Reducing recovery time from triggers
- Returning to school and/or the workforce
- Saving lives
- Decreasing anxiety

TLCAD works hard to transform lives with Service Dogs; lives of the husbands and wives, sons and daughters, friends and families, coworkers and the community members. TLCAD continues to transform the lives of individuals and families with your help. Training a pup to become a hero is an invigorating job. The cost to train a Service Dogs is approximately $20,000. This cost includes veterinary services, food, equipment costs, and training staff over a two-year span.

TLCAD is hoping to raise funds to help clients with the cost of a Service Dog through our new Scholarship Fund. The Scholarship Fund helps clients pay for the cost of a dog if they are unable. Currently, we value our Service Dogs from either of our two programs, At Ease and Leash-On-Life, at $20,000 and $10,000 for our six month Certification Course for Wounded Warriors. With your loyal support, you can help TLCAD continue to make a difference in more individuals’ lives. We ask you to please consider making your tax-deductible donation to TLCAD. Your donations will help create more meaningful and independent lives for our recipients and will help the increasing numbers of those being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder  (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), mobility issues and autism, by allowing TLCAD to continually and positively improve their lives and the lives of their family and friends.

About Us

Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs, Inc. (TLCAD) is a non-profit organization that has been training Service Dogs in San Diego since 1998. TLCAD is fully accredited by Assistance Dogs International (ADI) and only uses positive reinforcement training methods. TLCAD has four programs:

At Ease Service Dogs Program:

TLCAD custom trains Service Dogs for Wounded Warriors with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and/or mobility limitations.

Those in this program have shown to:

- Decrease anger/impatience
- Decrease depression/anxiety
- Decrease feelings of potential threats
- Decrease sleep issues (i.e. insomnia)
- Decrease medications
- Empower their lives once again
- Return them to school or the work force

Leash-On-Life Program:

TLCAD custom trains autism Service Dogs to meet the specific needs of individuals on the autism spectrum. This program has continued to work with ACT Today!, a group providing services to military families affected by autism and TERI, Inc., a facility providing services to children and adults with developmental and learning disabilities.

Those in this program have shown to:

- Create social pathways by which to interact with others
- Help in transitioning to new places and situations
- Deter negative behaviors
- Increase fine motor skills
- Increase responsibility and independence
- Decrease tantrums and eloping (running off)
- Help entire families cope with the many daily challenges for those on the autism    spectrum.

Facility Dog Program

TLCAD trains dogs to assist  individuals with limited abilities and special needs;therapy centers, schools, and physical therapy centers to include veterans in outpatient clinics at both military hospitals and off base. This program works currently with TERI, Inc. (the Training, Education & Research Institute for children and adults with developmental and learning disabilities) and the Winston School. Facility Dogs can assist up to 70+ individuals, their families and the facility staff members.

Facility dogs help reward and motivate individuals with autism and other limited abilities by:

- Assisting with modeling behavior, ex: proper greeting, waiting ones turn, sitting quietly in proper location and self-control.

-  Responding to non-verbal individuals with hand signals iPad programs and simple    body language.

- Having a calming effect on students, patients and staff

- Shorten the duration and lessen the intensity of problem behaviors

NEW- TLCAD Certification Course:

The mission of the TLCAD Certification Course is to serve Wounded Warriors, both active duty service members and veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and/or mobility issues, that would like to have their current dog or Service Dog become eligible for certification through an Assistance Dogs International (ADI) accredited organization (TLCAD). This course would allow them to become more independent in their daily lives and return them to an active role in society.  This program adheres to ADI's Minimum Standards for Certification of Owner/Private Trainer Trained Assistance Dog Teams.
