There's a place, nestled in the most northern corner of Jackson, Mississippi. It has been threatened by government entities, homeland terrorists, and even her own sons and daughters. At the same time, around the world, its revered by some who only know her from the fruit she bears- having never set foot within the gates. This place, with her gates, arch, Spanish moss, riot proof dormitories, cemetery, classrooms and all, is none other than Tougaloo College.
#Ten4Tougaloo is not limited to graduates or former students of Tougaloo College. This challenge is for anyone that believes that HBCUs still have a place in higher education, but HBCUs need re-imagine themselves with the community and its people in mind. So Jackson State University, Alcorn State University, Rust College, Mississippi Valley State University and all the HBCUs around the country can participate.
It's not what it could be because we haven't done all that we could do. Thomas Jefferson said "Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today." Today I ask you to do your small part in supporting Tougaloo College. Donate $10/week until Tougaloo Alumni Reunion + Commencement Weekend 2013.
This challenge was started in honor of the 10 year reunion for the class of 2003. The “10 for Tougaloo” Alumni Spirit Challenge will allow any Tougalooian to select a team of their choice and make a weekly pledge of $10 or more to their team in a race to see which organization can raise the most money for Tougaloo College. Individuals may make separate $10 (or more) pledges to separate groups if they elect to do so. For example if someone wants to make a pledge for TeamOmegaPsiPhi and TeamLegalEagles they could make separate pledges of $10 to each group.
This more than giving back, it's giving forward. Let's move Tougaloo College forward.
