BENEFITING: Emory University
EVENT DATE: Sep 15, 2014
All donations and proceeds from the Terance Mathis Celebrity Classic will benefit the ALS Center at Emory University.
A note from Terance: As I have become more involved in the past couple of years with this cause, I realize that nobody is immune to getting ALS. It literally can strike anyone, and the fact that so many professional athletes have been diagnosed really has hit home with me. ALS is a neuromuscular disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord. There is no cure, no survivors to tell their stories, and the average life span after diagnosis is 2-5 years. It takes away the ability to move, speak, swallow, and ultimately breathe.
This is the second year for our tournament, which will take place on September 15, 2014 at Alpharetta Athletic Club in Alpharetta, GA. The funds raised will benefit the Emory ALS Center. Located in Atlanta, the Emory ALS Center is one of the largest clinical centers for ALS in the United States. The Center provides true multidisciplinary care for patients and families with ALS, and is dedicated to performing groundbreaking research in the laboratory to discover treatments and a cure.
The financial needs at the Emory ALS Center are great in both research and clinical care. Research drives the clinic -- and the clinical care of patients drives the research. Both are necessary to solve the mysteries of the disease and discover treatments and an eventual cure. The greatest needs at present are in the Emory ALS Clinic. To properly care for the patients with ALS and other neuromuscular disease, funds are needed for staffing, therapies, and materials for clinical care. Funds raised from the Terance Mathis Celebrity Golf Classic support those needs.
If you cannot join us on September 15 I invite you to make a donation to support the Emory ALS Center.
