Walk with your community and help bring peace to children around the world!
When: 9 am to 1 pm
Where: Bartlett Nature Center | James “Pate” Philip State Park, 2054 W. Stearns Road, Bartlett, IL, Google Map
We invite you to participate in the Walk for Peace and World Peace Day Celebration. It’s a fun event for the whole family, and celebrates the United Nations’ International Day of Peace (September 21). We hope you’ll join us for the 5k walk, face painting, activities, games and international food festival.
Play for Peace needs your help to do our work, both around the world and right here in Chicago.
According to UNICEF, more than 230 million children currently live in areas affected by armed conflicts. That is 1 in 10 of the world’s children. The World Bank reports that armed conflicts and fragility affect staggering 1.2 billion people. Here in the U.S., in some of our largest cities, children live in divided communities where violence and racial tension affect their lives every day.
At Play for Peace we bring together children, youth and organizations from communities in conflict using cooperative play to create laughter, compassion and peace. We promote lifelong friendships in children, youth and adults from different cultures and groups in conflict. Through cooperative play, we experience the "enemy" as someone not so different from ourselves and learn that when we work together, peace is possible.
Last year, our top walker was a seven-year-old boy named Aidan, who says he believes that children should not live in violence, and he wants to bring peace to the world. Thanks to our walkers and sponsors from last year, we were able to expand our programs in Chicago and create 18 new Play for Peace Clubs globally.
Bring your family, neighbors and friends to collect donations and walk with us on Saturday, September 19. Help us raise $50,000 to bring laughter, compassion and peace to kids in Chicago and around the world!
Minimum donation: Adults $25, Kids $10 for kids two and older (All children must be accompanied by an adult.)
Registration is open until the day of the Walk for Peace.
If you set up your fundraiser by Thursday, September 10, we will guarantee that we’ll have your t-shirt at the Walk for Peace; otherwise, we may have to send it to you after the walk.
