BENEFITING: SALGI ESOPHAGEAL CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Jun 18, 2016
I had barely heard about esophageal cancer before 2012. Then two of my siblings were diagnosed within a year (they were 3 years apart in age). My brother Jim was diagnosed in early 2012 around the same time my sister Lyn was beginning her first round of chemotherapy. By the time they were diagnosed with this disease, they were very sick. Sadly and at such a loss to those that loved her most, my sister died that June. All the while my brother was progressing with chemo and radiation. Somehow, later that year, he was able to get through an 11hr surgery then on to another year of recovery & rebuilding his body. The end of 2014 still proved him to be healthy, a miracle some doctors said. My own warrior died of esophageal cancer in March 2015. This is how tragic, how quick, how devastating this disease is. Now it is my turn to stay vigilant for myself and others for early detection. My hope is someday for regular testing, early detection and treatment so no more families have to suffer.
I'm so disappointed I cannot walk this year, please consider supporting this great local organization any way possible! Thank you for taking the time to read a piece of my story.
