I am currently training for the upcoming 2014 Berlin Marathon in September. I have been fortunate to receive guidance from several resources, including mentorship from elite Coach Andrew Kastor of the Mammoth Track Club and the camaraderie of the Los Angeles Roadrunners Club. Since I began my running journey four years ago, I truly believe there has been and will continue to be a purpose for me to run!
I have recently drawn much inspiration from Dan and Kathy (Mori) Teshiba. Dan has been battling ALS since being diagnosed in 2011 and Kathy has been his enduring “rock” of support, taking on the responsibility as his primary caretaker. I became aware of Dan’s diagnosis via Facebook and his online blog “My ALS Journey” at http://myalsjourney-dan.blogspot.com/ .
Kathy and Dan’s Christian faith continues to keep them strong through this ordeal, but a recent water leak and home inspection resulted in the loss of their kitchen, adding additional inconvenience to a complicated lifestyle. With Dan being unable to continue his employment as a Pharmacist, I expected and have confirmed that they are presently financially burdened.
Despite the issues, Kathy, Dan, their family and friends have raised over $8,000 for ALS research during the past 2 years. As I continue my training to Berlin, their story and faith has now inspired me to raise funds to DIRECTLY ASSIST THEM during this time of need.
Please consider directly assisting Dan and Kathy through this Crowdrise fundraising page. There is no minimum amount, it’s incredibly simple and your gift is processed directly to them. You can also find updated information on assisting Kathy and Dan at https://www.facebook.com/teshiba.als.
Please note that although this is not categorized as a charitable donation…it is a great way to express yourself as a “special person” assisting a “special couple” during their time of need!
